Join AIA Southwest Wisconsin and the Madison Chapter of CSI for a tour of the renovations happening at the Elvehjem and Red Gym on the UW-Madison campus. Tour of these iconic buildings, and a discussion of the opportunities and challenges presented by their renovations. The tour will start at 4:00, meeting in the courtyard between the Chazen Art Museum and Elvehjem Building. After the tours we will head over to the Union Terrace to socialize. In case of rain, we will meet in der Rathskeller.

Learning Objectives:

• Realize the importance of creating a historic structures report. Understand the steps in conducting a condition assessment survey.
• Appreciate the timeline challenges in procurement of replacement materials.
• Understand compliance with National Park Service Preservation Briefs.
• Appreciate high end craftsmanship in Masonry and Roofing on historic buildings.Understand pre-qualifying workers for historic building repairs.

PPE Required: Please dress appropriately for a construction site and bring your personal protective equipment, with closed-toed shoes, hard hats, and high-visibility vests. If you need to borrow PPE, please contact Chad Oistad.
